Solving Texture Challenges in Premium Soup Production with High Shear Mixing Technology

Soup Manufacturer Solves Texture Issues with Dynashear Mixer - Blog

At Admix, we believe in more than just delivering high-performance industrial mixers—we build partnerships. That’s exactly how we approached a recent project with a manufacturer of all-natural, high-end soups, chowders, and chilies. Their products, made from fresh vegetables and clean-label ingredients, are sold in both wholesale and retail markets, where consistency and texture are critical to customer satisfaction.

The Challenge: Texture Versatility with an Inline Mixer

The customer approached us looking for a hygienic inline mixer that could add the perfect "finish" to a wide range of soups. From a fine puree to 1/4-inch diced vegetables like carrots, the required texture range was broad. Their current mixer was not only expensive to operate but also unpopular with the production team due to its complexity and inefficiency.

The Solution: A Collaborative, Two-Phase Approach

Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, our team partnered closely with the customer to develop a tailored approach:

Phase One: On-Site Testing
dynashearWe supplied a Dynashear® inline high shear mixer equipped with a VFD (variable frequency drive), a standard slot stator, and a custom back-pressure system featuring a pressure gauge and valve. The Dynashear doubled as a shear pump, transferring soup directly from cook kettles to holding tanks—eliminating the need for a separate PD pump due to the soups' low viscosity.
By adjusting the back pressure, the production team could control residence time in the mixer, yielding a range of textures—from smooth purees to medium-chunky soups. Initial results were promising, and multiple samples were evaluated for quality.

Phase Two: Hygienic Lab Testing
To fine-tune the process, we brought the project into the Admix hygienic lab, where we confirmed that the Dynashear could consistently deliver the full texture spectrum required. Our team demonstrated precise particle reduction capabilities and validated the mixer's performance under hygienic production conditions.

The Result: Reliable, Versatile Soup Mixing with Hygienic Equipment

The customer ultimately purchased a custom single-stage Dynashear, modified by removing the axial stage to accommodate larger vegetable chunks. We also delivered a full suite of interchangeable stators—including standard, fine, and a newly developed ultra-coarse slot stator for chunkier soups.

To ensure tool-free, error-proof swaps between stators, we provided three dedicated faceplates, streamlining production changeovers and improving operational efficiency.

Partnering for Success

This project is a perfect example of how Admix works hand-in-hand with food manufacturers to solve complex mixing and emulsifying challenges. Whether you're working with soups, sauces, or high-viscosity batters, our lineup of high shear mixers, hygienic mixers, and inline homogenizers delivers the consistency, efficiency, and reliability your process demands.
